Phase III of the Master Plan, the gym, chapel, and multi-purpose room will begin after Phase II is complete and the funds are available to build.
The Next 50 Years
Almost fifty years ago, a group of seven families from the Evangelical Free Church in Berkeley decided to start a church in Walnut Creek. Over the next thirteen years the young church experienced five building projects that brought us our Fellowship Hall, Chapel, west wing, preschool offices, and gym into existence. The acquisition and renovation of the Annex followed in the early 80s.
In 1997 the congregation adopted a new master plan to build out the whole campus. Phase I of three phases, the Children’s Ministry Center, was completed in 1999. Phase II was proposed in 2002, but, due to a lack of adequate funding, it seemed as if God closed that door.
Daniel Cook & Associates (DCA) has been selected as our archetict. DCA builds only churches and schools and currently has almost 200 projects under contract in 25 states. Their architects work in tandem with pre-selected local builders to control costs through (1) the integration of pre-designed engineering elements in a simple, yet functional, layout, (2) a nation-wide buying program for materials, and (3) focused contractor negotiations.
When we saw the significant savings provided through this approach, we realized that it was possible to build Phase II and Phase III (96,000 sq. ft.) for less than half of what had been previously projected. The elders have approved a $13 million budget proposal which we are confident will allow us to completely build our property and serve our needs for the next fifty years.
This “door of opportunity” will allow for:
Future growth in the church and Academy
A dedicated facility for teaching, worship, and conferences
A dedicated space for student ministries
Dedicated adult classrooms
Upper grade playground and child care room
Church offices back on campus
