Worship Ministries at NorthCreek Church
“Sing praises with a skillful psalm.” Psalm 47:7b
Worship is giving God the glory He alone deserves. How do we do this? We do it not only with our voices, but with our heart, soul, and mind (Matt. 22:37). Singing and praising God in worship is not only an emotional experience, but it should also be instructive (Col. 3:16). Adam Clarke's commentary states it this way, “…sing an instructive song. Let sense and sound go together. Let your heart and head go with your voice. Understand what you sing; and feel what you understand; and let the song be what will give instruction in righteousness to them that hear it. Sing wisely.” God has given us the wonderful gift of music to develop for the purpose of bringing glory and praise to Him. We seek to do this skillfully to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
OUR GOAL
The Worship and Music ministry at NorthCreek Church exists to develop this gift of music. First, by identifying, training, and sending musicians out humbly and skillfully to serve God's purposes through the church. Secondly, to equip the church with general musical knowledge that will enhance the use of music in glorifying God.
WHO ARE WE?
We are a diverse, multi-generational group of musicians seeking to serve in an increasing number of ways:
- Weekend worship team and band: Is made up of vocalists and instrumentalists who lead worship every Sunday. The band meets for rehearsals on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and the Vocal team meets on Thursday evenings after Choir rehearsal. One must be a member or in the process of becoming a member of NorthCreek Church to participate in leading worship.
- Choirs:
- Worship Choir: Open for singers from grade seven and up. We meet for rehearsals in the choir room (WC #123) on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m., from September through May. We usually sing on the second and fourth weekends of the month. We also present special services at Christmas, Easter, our Great Family Gathering, and Special worship events throughout the year.
- Children's Choir: We have three children choirs: The Pre-K Choir (ages 3-K); the Primary Choir (grades one and two), and the Junior Choir (grades three through six). Our Children's Choir meets on Thursdays at 3:45 p.m., from September through April.
- Special events: During the year the Worship ministry also leads worship services other than the regular weekend services.
- Christmas musicals
- Easter musicals
- Great Family Gathering
- Worship events
- Instrumentalists: We are always in search for new talented individuals who can assist the vocal teams and choirs at different times of the year. There are opportunities for brass, woodwinds, strings, percussion, and contemporary band instrumentalists.
- Student Brass & Woodwind Group: Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the choir room (WC#123).
- Adult Instrumentalist: Meet on scheduled Sunday morning rehearsals.
We seek to provide opportunities to use and train each person's strengths, whether professional or amateur, classically trained or self taught, play by note or by ear.
- Additional Opportunities:
- Prayer Team: Our prayer team stands ready at the end of each worship service at the front of the platform to pray with anyone who has a prayer concern.
- Ushers and Greeters: Through Front Door Ministries there is opportunity to be a part of a hospitable team of men and women that serves those who come to worship at NorthCreek.
WHAT WE VALUE
Our values include a consistent devotion to God's glory and His Word. To build Christian musicians who worship God, walk in love, and witness to the world.
